Enda O’Donoghue’s work presents a forensic interest into the construction, the language and the mediated world of digital images together with an ongoing dialogue with the medium and process of painting. Hovering between the realms of abstraction and representation, between the mathematical encoded and the organic, O’Donoghue’s paintings are the result of a process which is highly analytical and methodical and yet inviting of errors, misalignments and glitches. The source material for most of his work comes from found images and other media where he plays with seemingly random throwaway moments of everyday life or forgotten relics of cultural or personal significance. These are translated, reconfigured and merging together in various interconnected themes, building towards narratives made up of these disparate elements and fragments, blurring the lines between fact and fiction, science and pseudoscience, evidence and invention.
