About Jonathan

Jonathan Brilliant was born in in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1976. He holds a BA in studio art from the College of Charleston and an MFA in Spatial Arts from San Jose State University.

Between May 2009 and December 2010, Brilliant conducted Have Sticks Will Travel world Tour, an eighteen-month-long marathon series of site-specific installations that traveled to thirteen galleries in three countries and two continents.

His work has been exhibited internationally and he has received numerous fellowships to artist residencies and communities including McColl Center for Visual Art, Oxbow School of Art, Vermont Studio Center, Penland School of Crafts, and East/West Project in Berlin. He is also a recent recipient of a grant from Pollock Krasner Foundation.

I am mesmerized and inspired. The gallery placement and surroundings are complementary as well. The amount off work that is required to create this is tedious and not many could complete this, maybe some could on a smaller scale.

what an intresting comment on 6.29.2012, I didn't know one had to study art for such a long time in order to be allowed to make comments or even know what one should like.
Sorry, but a comment like "a 2 year old could recreate this..." is very passé.
If you leave comments, please don't just drop some lines, but explain why you (dis)like something.

Very, very good. Very much appreciate and enjoy the combined senses of flow and fragility, yet also a sense of fullness that gives oneself pause to think. Thank you for the link to the artist's website where I found many more works that did and should convince that there is very real artistic thought and creativity here, to say nothing of an admirable eye for what is possible. Keep up the good work and keep sharing with the rest of us.
