Alex Weinstein makes sculptures from fiberglass and urethane resins as well as oil paintings on canvas and plywood panels.
Weinstein is best known for his studies of the ocean surface. An long-time avid surfer, he aims to convey the direct and immersive experience of his time spent in the ocean while maintaining a discourse with contemporary issues in art.
His work has been exhibited throughout California and in New York, France, England, Australia, Japan and Brazil. Most recently, he installed his swell model (for Hokusai) 2011, a monumental wall sculpture comprised of twelve sculpted panels measuring 15 by 20 feet.
"I am always emotionally moved by Weinstein's powerful paintings around the studies of the ocean's surface."
