Eric Fischl was born in New York City and grew up in the suburbs of Long Island. He received a BFA from California Institute for the Arts in 1972. Prior to that he studied at Phoenix College.
Fischl has collaborated with renowned artists and authors such as E.L. Doctorow, Allen Ginsberg, Jamaica Kincaid, Jerry Saltz and Frederic Tuten. Likewise, his work has been featured in over a thousand publications.
His work has been extensively exhibited worldwide at museums and galleries including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modem Art in New York City, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, St. Louis Art Museum and Musee Beaubourg in Paris.
