About Scott

Cakeland is a sculptural installation resembling a collection of perfect delicious cakes– wall mounted, hanging and standing– a walk-through cake environment complete with its own lighting. It is a sweet refuge, an endless kaleidoscopic landscape of cake, a respite from the grinding realities of the outside world.

The sculptures have all of the appeal of the best cake you have ever tasted, but can never be eaten. Whereas the nature of edible cake is fleeting, lasting only as long as the brief celebration it was made for, these cakes last as long as the artist or society have the wherewithal to preserve them, in order that they remain a place of pilgrimage, a seemingly idyllic oasis.

Being such a place of beauty, Cakeland requires that it be equipped with its own defense, because the reality of beauty and perfection is that people want to possess it. So for their own protection, the sculptures and installations have evolved strategically placed sharp teeth and horns. Without this aggressive aspect– call it the anti-cake– the beauty is vulnerable, transitory, and not to be respected. Cakeland represents a temporary defense against time, a place where you can always go to celebrate and experience the ephemeral essence of life. The cakes are constructed of acrylic media and paint on wood, and cardboard and assorted media for the large installations.

must we eat it? i would hate to see it fall and crumble into another person's mouth.

Ha ha yes make out monsters

Very good work, extremely provocative...i have dreams (nightmares) like this just about every night--no wonder i have an eating disorder.

I have seen a good deal of Scott Hove's work, and it spans a broad range of styles and mediums. However, the one constant factor is his incredible sense of making the unimaginable, tangible. His creativity and his artistry keeps me always wanting to see what he will do next... I am not sure what goes on inside the brain of such a unique artist, but I hope to see more!

mmmmmm that looks sooooo yumi

Perhaps if there had been an image showing the installation, the artist's intentions may have been clearer. But the individual images make no clear statement. One should not have to read the artist statement to find meaning in an artist's work.

Wow! These are scary but very cleverly crafted!

Wow thats look like a flash card monter, itsn't???

amazing has the stuff that great art has, seperates you from everything but the art.I hope this person keeps it going.almost as piercing as Frank Flemings, the storyteller.
