About Rimi

California based artist Rimi Yang’s increasingly sophisticated paintings imbue traditional Asian imagery with a contemporary spin. Intensely emotional, vibrant and often whimsical, Yang’s work shows a technical mastery that can only be achieved through an ardent dedication to the act of painting. For Yang, this act is highly intuitive, and often a celebration of the uncertainties of life.

In addition to her training at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, Rimi Yang has studied at Otis College of Art and Design, and spent a summer in Florence, Italy, studying at the Florence Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited on both coasts, most notably in New York and Los Angeles, and she has been featured numerous times in the Kyoto Journal.

"aaaah, soothing, youthful - People with aristocratic confident form surrounded by movement."

"Lovely--keen sense of anatomy & textures. The loose brushwork & overlaying adds a dreamy sense to the paintings. I look forward to checking out the artist's site in more detail."

"I like how the beauty comes through with suggestions of what is vivid, and what is not. A world is suggested by the vivid face on a faded stylized horse. You don't see her, you are focused on her bright red box. Amazing poetry in painting."

"Don't care for the simplicity of composition. Cannot abide the splotchy/drippy paint thing - just looks sloppy. That being said, I still find these paintings oddly compelling to look at."

"These are lovely paintings. I love the combination of pastels and strong colors which seem to show both the tough and tender characteristics of women."
