Johnny Hoglund is a painter who lives and works in London, United Kingdom.
Johnny explains the work by saying, “I am interested in the ”true” nature of man, not the pedestal (of our social conventions and its sexual taboos) we have climbed up on, and from which I want to push down in my work, and offer the viewer a glimpse into the primal nature of ourself. Eat, sleep, fuck. I believe that underneath the layers of sheep’s clothing, man is a wild animal taught table manners, pretending to be something other, hiding the real self — man domesticated himself. I am looking for that emotional response, which I believe is achieved by working towards a balance; a break, or rupture in the image that creates a tension between the tangible and the obscure, but also leaves an uncanny presence of personality.”
