Joshua Petker was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1979 and received a BA in Western History from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. While pursuing a degree in History he maintained a growing interest in the arts that developed out of a fascination with graffiti which Petker started creating as a youth. After studying abroad in 2001 at the Lorenzo de”Medici Institute of Florence, he decided to pursue a career as a fine artist upon completion of his studies back in the U.S.A.
Petker creates an ethereal world filled with mysterious muses and enchanting sirens that is as colorful and opulent as the neon palette he paints from. Influenced by history, fashion and the pursuit of beauty, the artist infuses his imagery with a potent mix of lost love, stolen hearts, sexual longing, and spiritual death.
"German expressionism meets the special Crayola box with the fluorescent colors. I'm drawn to the hints of a story, and the harsh, deconstructed beauty."
"Joshua has a fantastic use of color. I've always been a fan of his work and particularly enjoyed his most recent show in LA which featured a more conceptual body of work."
