Erica's selections

Omalix

Orlando, FL

"

The first time I found myself standing in from of one of Omalix’s works was at a group exhibition we both participated in. I was immediately struck by the textile nature of the paintings. It’s as if they are stitched together with each brush stroke, with a loving and inherently feminine touch. She approaches the female body with uninhibited love both in her process and symbology.

"

Patrick Earl Hammie

Chicago, IL

"

I had the honor of participating in a group show with Patrick Earl Hammie at Yeelen Gallery in Miami Florida. Patrick Earl Hammie’s work contains a power and visceral presence that is difficult to achieve. The paintings are a dynamic encounter that make an important impression in our current cultural space through exploring identity, race, and power. I admire the way he represents the being of bodies in paint and gesture.

"

Ronald Hall

Seattle, WA

"

Ronald Hall has developed a language in his work I deeply admire. His paintings, through narrative, potent symbol, and intentional color leave endless exploration into each piece. His work is a place of learning for me.

"

Fahamu Pecou

Atlanta, GA

"

The first pieces I saw of Fahamu Pecou’s were poignant. He has a way of narrowing your focus through icon, through curation of the space in his paintings, and through pointed symbols. His works bring both celebration of identity and exploration of what constitutes it in a way that is accessible to the viewer and genuinely beautiful.

"

Mary Iverson

Seattle, WA

"

Mary’s Iverson work was a welcome entryway into the Seattle area when I moved across the country last year. She engages presence in space. She explores human encounter with the environment in a way that has framed my experience in the new setting: a major city nestled within profound nature.
