Roni Stretch was born in Merseyside, England, and studied at St. Helens College of Art and Design until 1983, before moving to the United States.
He describes the language of his oil paintings as a dialogue between process and surface, or the emotional experience of a visual structure. His revelation about the subjectivity of human experience is what led him to create.
‘The very act of seeing changes what is seen,’ says Stretch. It follows that ‘painting about limitless possibilities of paint and the relationship of the artist to the very act of making it.’
His work has been exhibited numerous times in California.
