Julie Levesque is a sculptor and installation artist, as well as the founder and curator the Art for the Garden, an outdoor exhibition of contemporary sculpture.
In her work she is primarily concerned with motion and the transformation of energy into, for example, inanimate objects. Slumped, eroded, or enlarged, energy is made visible in ways never physically show in the body. Working almost exclusively in white, she strives to create tension, by removing the color from these objects.
Levesque was recently awarded an Artist’s Resource Trust grant. She also won a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant in 2005 and the grand prize in the Provincetown Art Museum’s national competition in 2001. Her work is included in numerous museums and collections, both public and private, and regularly exhibited across the United States.
