Jacques de Beaufort received his MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2000, and his BFA with honors from University of Virginia in 1997.
Beaufort loosely likens art to psychopomps, mediating between the everyday and the archetypal. He envisions his work guiding from the foreign to the familiar and the universal and to the particular, without judgement, in the tradition of Shamanistic and Alchemical art.
‘One may look into the painting, but the painting looks back—a strange mirror of hidden desire and the churning eros that lurks behind the veil,’ he says. ‘Painting can be a type of magic if we give it enough space and a little silence.’
Beaufort’s work has been exhibited across the United States, and he is currently an associate professor of visual art at Palm Beach Art Institute in Florida.
