About Victor

Victor Castillo is a Chilean painter currently residing in Los Angeles, California. He was born in Santiago, Chile in 1973.

He began drawing obsessively at the age of five, inspired by the animations he saw on television, science fiction movies, and the illustrations on his family’s record covers such as Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. Following a disillusive experience with art school, Victor participated in an independent experimental art collective in Santiago, creating mixed media sculpture and video installations.

Victor moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2004, where he established his painting style with references to comics. After seeing the Prado Museum in Madrid, particularly Goya’s Black Paintings, he adopted aspects of classical painting in his work. Working with the legendary Igaupop Gallery until its closing in 2010, Victor began to show his work internationally.

"Victor Castillo must have enjoyed watching the “Pink Elephants on Parade” section of the Disney classic Dumbo. I know I did. I can see it in the world he creates through his paintings. Silly Symphonies gone wild with hollow and dark parts ol’ Walt himself did not produce. Perhaps Castillo is a lost and highly-talented painter who took a wrong turn one day in the 1930’s in Burbank while on his lunch break. Wherever he came from, his artwork is captivating to me both in its skill level and the way he reimagines old cartoons into something more bizarre and laughingly frightful."

"its really cool how even tho they're having fun they r still being destuctive i think its like america is right now they think that they r doin the right thing but they aren't, they are just making it worse for them selves and for eveyone else! but a very good and very creative!!"

"Bravisimo! brilliant interpretation allison. thats one of my favortie things about art, how everyone's interpretation is different. As long as the interpretor gets the jist of the meaning behind the work, its a free for all on how you view it."

"well, as you know the main character in a clockwork orange was alex, an adolescent. teens and preteens are seen to be innocent for the most part. and at one point the masks the kids wear were a symbol of fun and whimsy. of course, alex destroyed those thoughts by going to the milk bar and wreaking havoc (which explains the moloko vellocent). i think the artist is showing how children aren't as pure as they once were. the boy in the bottom picture has blood on his hands, and he also has three sinister animals behind him, possibly representing alexs' friends in the book. the children in the top are destroying their town. in the rape scene that took place in a clockwork orange, the kids wore masks and danced around after raping the woman. the light, to me at least, is showing that although the kids are like this now, there is hope they will be good again. and if you're familiar with the 21 chapter version of a clockwork orange, it ends showing that there was hope.but that's just my interpretation.(:"

"ahh, nice catch allison, yeah i saw that but i didnt make the connection to 'a clockwork orange' (of which I'm a major fan). I dont understand the new meaning though, if youd like to enlighten me. Does anyone have a thought on the light in the sky of the first picture?"

"Yeah Victor."

"I think It's absolutely Brilliant. You can read this art in so many different ways. It's scary, but I'm very curious. I love it!"

"did anybody notice that the sky in the bottom one says moloko vellocet? which is interpreted as 'drug milk' literally. if you apply these pictures to 'a clockwork orange' (which is where moloko vellocet became popularly known as drug milk) these pictures take on a whole new meaning."

"im not a fan of clowns but its ok."

"these are great its just what the world is about... everything is hidden by a smile, people are so hypocrite these days and just to get what they want they lie by putting "a smile on" like the second picture shows .... i also agree with Monica M and JAR...."

"Amazing!!! En verdad increible. Para mi la primera pintura tiene cierto poder detrás que inevitablemente te atrae. Definitely agree with JAR, couldn't have put it in better words."
