Shea explains the work by saying, “I am interested in moments of clarity: those specific instances when I don’t know if I am dreaming or wide awake. When communication is easy and I can see pathways into the future. I find truth in the ritual of mixing pigment with oil and like a scientist, tend to get very involved with the alchemy of making. The paintings that develop are not happy accidents but rather calculated tests on the boundaries of control.”
