Ilaria Ortensi is an Italian artist currently living and working in New York City. Through different media and strategies her work investigates the construction and representation of contemporary space. She uses both documentation and fiction to create images that viewers are encouraged to question. In her recent work Variations (2015) a Piranesi’s drawing from the series Prisons is revisited using a vernacular material like white packaging styrofoam to create an impossible visual configuration. The photographs of the installation show a luminous architecture that reference digital technology and virtual design, yet being entirely analogical.
