Robert Hewer is a painter based in Bath, England. He earned a Fine Art Foundation Degree from Yeovil Collage and a BA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University.
Robert explains his work by saying, “A wealth of imagery flows throughout my work from architecture and structured objects to portraiture and the human figure, with the images being selected initially on formalistic qualities. They are then used as a vehicle for establishing a language between the painterly mark and the structure. Primarily using oil & acrylic paint on primed canvas, I attempt to depict shape and form using clean assured lines in conjunction with abrupt gestures layered on the surface. My work has a founded emphasis on angular form and geometry, with a rigorous investment in the surfaces materiality, from the paints visual disparity in application to its textual physicality. I aim to draw the viewer in to explore the complexity of these images, enticing them to unfold the process and visual history of the paintings.”
