Chris Leib is an artist living and working in Brooklyn NY. His paintings feature Bonobo chimps and astronauts in various odd settings and are loosely inspired by the species (mis)interpretation of historical contexts.
Chris explains his work by saying, “my recent work utilizes misplaced nostalgia, heroic subjects and classical themes in an attempt to create ambiguous outcomes that elude factual reference. Cold War era figures, cosmonauts and other “heroes” reenact historical narratives amidst settings that are reminiscent of early Northern European Renaissance paintings, but the odd and distorted features of the figures undermine the nostalgic sentiment normally ascribed to these subjects.”
