Katie Berka is an artist living and working in New York. She recently graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. Much of her work uses domestic imagery to explore themes of familiarity, ambiguity, and compartmentalization.
Katie describes the work by saying, “I paint ambiguous environments using the build up of familiar objects. Hoards of decorative elements are tied together, piled and balanced, suspended into and on top of one another. These unlikely accumulations serve as a method and portrayal of compartmentalization of everyday surroundings.”
