About Katie

Katie Berka is an artist living and working in New York. She recently graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. Much of her work uses domestic imagery to explore themes of familiarity, ambiguity, and compartmentalization.

Katie describes the work by saying, “I paint ambiguous environments using the build up of familiar objects. Hoards of decorative elements are tied together, piled and balanced, suspended into and on top of one another. These unlikely accumulations serve as a method and portrayal of compartmentalization of everyday surroundings.”

"Meticulous and endlessly viewable. Amazing!"

"Wonderfully busy!"

"la maison du depressif :)"

"Good use of color but seems like a hoarder lives in this painting"

"I checked out Katie's website - the first picture doesn't do her justice, the second one does. I loved Watered Down, Steep, and most of all Set. She's doing something great with brushstrokes - you can see it in the images of the pictures above and the details of paintings on her website, some of which I like better than the actual paintings. Katie recently graduated from art school - she's definitely someone to keep watching. P.S. My house looks just like these paintings, no exaggeration."
