Billy Reynolds earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Billy explains the work by saying, “I enter the unknown with each new piece of art to honor the fragility of human existence. My work at first might seem too aggressive, but take a closer look and there is optimism too – optimism of being alive in our own complex state of being. Showing the underlying processes of the human body is in invigorating practice. It makes me feel more connected to our humanness, yet this also creates alienation and anxiety. We are in a fragile state, we spin around the earth rapidly and don’t feel it, while the earth revolves around the sun, creating the seasons. And we are all just indifferent specs in this whole cosmos. One part of my art that is always optimistic though, is how I create every painting: with a lot of preparation, a lot of discipline and determination, and beautiful painting techniques. My ultimate goal is to move you and make you think differently about your own composition.
