Patricia Morris began exhibiting installation works in Montreal, Sackville, NB, and St. John’s, NFLD, in the 1980’s. She currently exhibits original landscape and abstract paintings in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Kingston, ON.
Born on Jan 1956 in Beauharnois, QC, Patricia spent her childhood in Kitmat, BC, and her teenage years in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, where she completed her “O Levels” and an early “A Level” in Fine Art.
In 1979 Patricia completed her BFA with honors at Mount Allison University with a major in sculpture and drawing; a MFA from Concordia in mixed media an 1983, and a Dip. ED.from McGill in 1990. Patricia taught drawing and sculpture in Mount Allison University’s Fine Arts and Continuing Education Departments in the early ’80’s, and moved to Kingston Ontario in 1990, where she taught Fine Arts in Secondary school as well as continuing to exhibit her own works in solo and group exhibitions in Kingston, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal.
Patricia explains her work by saying, “‘Trans Canada Drive’ is a series of oil paintings that takes you on a drive across Canada. The images capture a fraction of a moment that is familiar to us all. A passing glance and passing attention while passing by.”
"Gerhard Richter started blurring his paintings, and since then, many artists do. But this is not just a blurred painting: This is PURE SPEED. Patricia Morris’ work reminds me of being a child in the backseat of the car. Dad's driving and the kids are sitting back letting the world slip by. But she punched up the country drive to Grandma’s house to nearly warp speed! Her landscapes are recognizable and beautiful, and Patricia Morris pushes her paintings to the edge of abstraction, a crash or the sound barrier! Great adrenaline rush."
