About Julie

Julie Murphy was born and raised twenty miles West of Chicago in Lombard, Illinois. A passion for all things creative guided her through a melodious childhood and the angst of public high school, where she explored the worlds of art, music, theater and journalism. She graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Speech and a Certificate of Creative Writing for the Media. At school, she studied film production, specifically experimental film and animation. She also deejayed a radio show and directed music videos for local bands. Post-collegiate employment in Chicago and Los Angeles included work at a Chicago Polish radio station, waitressing, bank employee, children’s shoe salesman, television production assistant, art department coordinator for Mad TV, script reader, stop-motion animation prop-maker, bartender and video editor. After years in the workforce, she mustered the courage to focus on visual art. She graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Everyday experiences– both adventurous and banal– inspire her artwork. Her primary hobby is people watching, followed by travel, reading books, swimming, cooking, discussing politics and aimlessly staring out windows. Today, she divides her time between art, video production, an office day job and dreaming about adventure in faraway places.
