Trey Speegle uses a mix of commercial and fine art methods and draws inspiration from one of the world’s largest collections of vintage paint-by-number paintings as raw source material for his typographic pop art pieces.
His work explores themes of hope, love, longing and loss by using affirmations, double entendre and word play with a broad pop appeal.
Last fall he was commissioned by Stella McCartney for a 18×32′ backdrop for her runway show in Paris. Smaller versions of his YES painting are available in McCartney’s flagship stores this spring.
Speegle is based in New York, where he divides his time between the Meatpacking District and a converted barn in the Catskill Mountains.
