Gabrielle Strong completed her BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, BC. Her practice is split between painting and ceramics and she is interested in mining the ways in which they intersect.
Prior to attending Emily Carr, Gabrielle spent five exciting years traveling to over 70 countries on all seven continents by sea on a luxury cruise-liner, leaving her with a deep connection to the ocean. Those years at sea have left their mark and coupled with twenty years living on the Pacific West Coast, she is forever drawn to themes of water and reflection, which occur throughout her art practice.
Gabrielle explains her work by saying, “Where many find the coastal rains dreary and depressing, I find beauty in big monochromatic skies and have always sought solace in the quietude. Primarily working with oil, my brushstrokes strive to capture the tranquility those overcast days inspire. I’m always searching for the moment the veil is lifted, revealing a glimmer of light on the horizon.”
