About Pat

Pat Perry is an artist and illustrator from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Colorful people, music, and the ordinary streets of the Midwest are his greatest inspiration.

Although he is happy to be able to speak and have an audience through his artwork, Perry does his best just to listen and learn from his surroundings.

His art has been exhibited nationwide and commissioned by a range of people. In between jobs, he travels as much as possible.

"I found myself really absorbed looking at Pat Perry’s drawings and paintings. He has a style that looks effortless despite having fairly complex compositions. There’s an intensity in his sketchbook drawings that I found really compelling. It’s really amazing to see how he’s documented his travels and how he uses his experiences to inform his work. I imagine him as the type of artist who has an uncontrollable compulsion to create; someone who’s constantly processing the world around him through his work. And, he’s probably got some pretty crazy travel stories."

"I love the idea of illustrating thoughts ... or moods .... The interiority of despair or confusion. A series ? Colour or Monochrome. Brilliant Love it ! Shared it on my facebook page - I hope that's ok."

"The sketch above is incredible. It says so much -- and I imagine it says things differently to everyone who looks at it. Beautiful Beautiful."

"Inspiring.. Are there prints available to purchase? Original for sale? Just curious. Thanks."

"Love it ! It's very unique technique! I feel bad for that poor lady. It seems that she has a miserable world in side her head and mind:-("

"great work you are a very skilled artist"

"Quite creative. Certainly does not strike me as message art, more about freewheeling consciousness."

"There seems to be a lot of disconnected darkness to this work. the darkness is disturbing, but the disconnectedness makes it unattractive, even if you like dark themed art."

"very unique and cool! I LOVE IT!"

"Phenomenal!! Study this one for a while and you still won't get it all! Really cool.. Great Imagination! The only thing that would make this better is a zoom lens.. :-)"

"He has potential for the future, especially if he gets some concentrated training and develops the person within the artist. As his work stands at present, however, I would have to say, "No thanks," to any of his work here or in the galleries of work on the artist's website. On the positive side, his words and his blog show him to be a seeker, a searcher and a traveler and is always translating his experiences through his continuous use of drawing notebooks. All of those traits will stand him in good stead to develop (in time) into the artist he wants to be. Keep working and keep sharing with the rest of us."
