Federico Uribe was born in Bogota, Colombia, in 1962. He studied art at the University of Los Andes in Bogota before moving to New York in 1988 to pursue an MFA degree under the supervision of Luis Camnitzer—a journey that would lead him to Cuba, Mexico, Russia, England, and finally Miami.
He began his artistic career a painter of ‘brooding and sensual’ canvases, influenced by self-proclaimed ‘dark reflections Catholic sense of pain, guilt and sexuality.’ Eventually he shifted his focus to installation art and sculpture.
Uribe regards his work as mostly conceptual, because while he employs the language of pop art through objects of daily life, he also includes references to art history and tradition.
His work has been exhibited worldwide.
