Amanda Clyne received a BFA for drawing and painting with a distinction from OCAD, Toronto, in 2009. Prior to that she studied at School of Visual Arts, New York.
Inspired by fashion and the history of commissioned portraiture, her work explores images that mirror of our desires. Her paintings are intended to criticize our modern obsession with beauty and persona, and to explore its affects human feelings of intimacy.
She starts by reprinting found images onto a non-adhesive surface and photographing the ink as it morphs and dissolves over time. Fragments of these photographs are used to compose a new image and finally she reproduces her results in paint on large-scale canvases.
Her work has been exhibited her work in Europe and across Canada and she has been featured in the magazines such as Flare and House and Home.
