About Jennifer

Jennifer Collier creates replicas of household items using paper and card. Her greatest inspiration is the paper she uses, often literature in a previous life.

Collier starts each new project by finding ‘paper fabric’ and then contemplates the end result. Her second greatest inspiration is the places where she looks for material—flea markets, charity shops, fruit and veg stalls, antique shops, and so forth.

By bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching the paper it becomes a type of fabric, and a twist on textiles. One of the rewards of her practice is ‘giving new life to what may otherwise be thrown away,’ she says.

Collier recently departed from her consultancy role at Playhouse Theatre in Birmingham, the latest in a string of residencies. Her work has been exhibited across Britain.
