Sarah Hickey received a BFA from Griffith University in 1997. Prior to that she studied secondary-level education.
She was inspired to return to her creative practice after five years as an art teacher by Julia Cameron, whose books emphasize the spiritual properties of making, even in times of self doubt.
Hickey intends to portray powerful women and ‘all that is fantastically feminine,’ even the frills not immediately associated with feminism. ‘Like a glossy magazine can do, I want to embrace all that lovely, floral, fluffy stuff that surrounds feminine mythology,’ she says.
Her work has been exhibited across Australia.
