About Mark

In my early years, I explored ravines and woods near my house. Often being late for dinner lost in another world. A serious interest in painting developed at 11 years old. As I recall, my first painting was of a rainbow trout. My parents hired local artists to instruct me privately during my teen years. A person who really taught good basics was Carl Christophersen. In painting lessons, Carl taught me to divide objects into shapes and planes with hard and soft edges.

Nature impassions me. I am on a constant quest for that perfect subject to paint. During my outdoor adventures, such as hiking or fishing, I am inspired by the things I find. It is important to me to bring home my experiences and share them in a painting. Some of the landscapes I paint are so remote that most people can’t view them. One of the most rewarding experiences is to set up an easel on a high mountain meadow and capture the true colors found there. Through photography, I’ve documented many of my trips into the wilderness. I later use these as references in my paintings.

The mediums I use are primarily oil, pastels, and watercolor.

"I have a piece of art work that was rescued from the KVI-KPLZ broadcast studio renovation in 1987. Since KVI was the home of the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and the art work features players in action at a base I'm under the impression this was painted in 1969. It is signed Boyle. Any idea of value?"

"Ah, I am at a loss for words, Mr. Boyle. As a young artist and writer, I often look to the past, and in the present to find beautiful artwork that teaches me something, anything, that comes across loud and clear, something I won't forget. This is not always easy to find, and sometimes when I find it, there is no story behind it. Looking at these paintings and reading your own words, reminds me of my own childhood, and my own longing to show people what I've encountered in nature, and in my own mind. And isn't that what art is all about? Bringing to light the things perhaps only our eyes, or our mind's eyes, have seen, only our hearts have loved. Our souls fill to the brim with an ache to share, but we are all at once speechless, unable to form words, and our only hope to escape this inner build of madness is to pick up a brush and make a mark, any mark, and hope that once we are finished one day, we feel that the messages of our inner worlds have been heard loud and clear."

"Exceptional landscape paintings, although they seem to be more than that. There's a hint of fond memory somehow... You've been so lucky to have such professional training! I'm totally jealous. Keep up the awesomeness :)"

"I thought these were beautiful, they made me think of clamming on mud flats"

"The paintings are gorgeous. I could look at them all day. You have a wonderful talent. I rate you 4 stars. Keepip the good work. You may want to get in touch with Don Joseph, who is in Vashon and writes and teaches music. He could put lyrics and music to your wonderful paintings. The two of you could make a wonderful contribution to the art world. The paintings remind me of the times spent out WEST. Thanks for the memories. Alex S"
