LOL i cannot get past these comments! Im not a smoker but im also not a beliver of exciling people because of their personal habits. Their are so many other horrible things happening in this world. HAHA!!! All you people complaining about smokers! I completely get these! It’s so funny to me! People do make me feel bad about smoking, esp. lately with all there smoking bans! I feel like I can’t smoke anywhere! Oh and Sarah.. waaa waa waa! Sensitive to smoke my ass. I understand it, I respect non smokers but most of you are just chronic complainers who love to hear their own voice. More people should smoke then maybe this country wouldn’t be so damn fat! Did you know at the rate obesity is going my generation(i’m 24) will most likely outlive their children! ICK! Smoking oh well… but the way people eat now, now that is disgusting! I’m a waitress and sometimes I just wanna tell people that diet coke isn’t going to help when you are a fat pig and eat enough for 4 people! UCK!!! I hate the internet sometimes! Any idiot can say anything!! I never usually write stuff but for GOD’s sakes I just wanted to look at art and people have to make stupid comments about it! Keep them to yourself you self righteous pricks! Tom you probably have some dirty and filthy habit as well. Probably worse then smoking… or maybe you’re a fat ass too!

I firmly believe if people want to kill themselves slowly by smoking; pollute their own bodies with such poison; and ‘indulge’ in such a repulsive habit then they should do so in the privacy of their own homes or spaces. Others who do not smoke don’t need to be poisoned or polluted because smokers feel the need to smoke anywhere they please in public. I have a brother with asthma and most my immediate family members are extremely sensitive to the smoke of cigarettes. The smell makes me nauseous and no doubt will have harmful effects on all those subjected to the whims of smokers smoking in open public places. So, while I admire the creativity behind this I don’t not agree with its sentiments or message as a whole. Labeling smokers as social refugees is a bit much.

I am one of those “reformed smokers” and I completely agree.
Smokers are now society’s pariahs…. it seems there always needs to be someone. I understand the health issues and don’t wish to debate that but instead appreciate the truth Laura “speaks” through her work! Brave.

I think your going a little far to say they are trying to put us into extinction, your welcome to smoke on the streets and in public outdoor areas in the majority of America still. I don’t think there is any secret agenda in the legislation here. I really like the glamor shots, but you should consider another smoker project if you haven’t with the drinking because that enters the pure habitual nature of smoking while drinking and there is a complex lack of glamour to someone with heavy intoxication.

Interesting choice of perspective. Smoking has a lot to do with image and addiction. I see much loss of control except for the “smoking fringe” that rolls and otherwise seeks purity (whence control) over what they ingest.
Tthese concepts, the photos are wel executed and illustrate to perfection.

While I like the photo-I have no sympathy for the plight of smokers. What a bad habit and dirty as well. As an artist,I can think of a lot better ways to express myself and for a better cause!! How about the American Cancer Society for starters.

While sitting in front of the fireplace last night, my husband commented that the contentment we have while gazing at a controlled fire is probably very ancient. I wonder about the sharing of fire and smoke and how that plays into all of this.

I remember as a teen thinking that smoking was sexy. It was literally an ‘in your face’ rebellion. When I was pregnant with my first child I decided to quit. Laura’s photos show the complexity of smoking–the enjoyment of smoking and the desire to be delivered from the habit. We all know what smoking does to us. It’s just so hard to quit. Good luck to those who try.

Interesting photos. While I applaud the concept behind the photos and believe we should have more ‘think’ art in our lives, as a former smoker, I disagree with the whole ‘smoker attitude. There are plenty of healthy ways to take a break from work or enjoy yourself or be social. We don’t need to kill ourselves in the process.

To all my friends who smoke, the Artist of Today, Laura Noel, has captured the essence, sex appeal, and drama of a lit cigarette in hand. Her photos reach into the being of the witness and stir the emotion of loneliness as the smoker projects their own friendship on the sleek aromatic gestalt prop. The seer of the photos experiences an almost holistic peace when viewing a lit fag in a womanâ??s beau dour with comforter and rocks glass containing a clear beverage. I am not a smoker however this young artist has captured an eerie poetic balance to the otherwise unhealthy addiction. I like Laura Noel’s talent.

I enjoyed Laura Noel’s social commentary associated with her photograph categories. Works like these help us visualize glimmers of our make up – and that of nitches of society. I am learning that what we don’t know about other folk’s motivation or seeming lack of motivation is a lot. What inspires us? What makes us dream? What makes us continue on the path we are on? And the biggy – what opens the door to change – especially positive change?

Very compelling. As a former smoker I miss the social aspects of smoking the most. It is as though I belong with a different social group now. Even after 10 years smoke free there is this feeling. Of course my health, the smell, the health of people around me and the dirtiness are to high of a price to pay. Oh, but I did look cool and glamorous.

I like the concept of this artwork and agree that the reasons why people continue to smoke is more complex that non smokers can imagine, however, the image would not be so meaningful without the accompanying, explanatory text.
