About Julian:

Julian is an illustrator living and working in Los Angeles. He recently graduated from the Otis College of Art and Design in LA.

About “Death, or a Murder of Crows” (bottom):

This work explores the many different nature symbols that people from cultures all over the world used to represent universal themes such as death, power, and wisdom. I was interested to discover just how important a role nature played in the mythologies, folklores, and traditions of these various cultures. As I researched the symbols I was fascinated by how the seemingly arbitrary plants and animals came to be associated with certain ideas in always interesting and sometimes surprising ways.

I’m not much for the subject matter; it’s rather puerile, and metal bandish. Sadly it seems like everything is these days? However, the technique harkens to Hokusai.

After seeing this artist’s website, I’d like to see a high frame-rate animated film drawn by him.

Masterful…So much like James Jean, but I can’t complain. There’s no one better to be compared to.
