Ricky on his work:
My work recalls a common childhood experience. When I was young I envisioned myself as a miniature person, a toy figure standing only a few inches tall. Items like pillows and radiators were transformed into massive geographical landmarks. As if attempting to explore the frontier, I could convert these man made objects into a vast, all-surrounding, natural landscape.
I am now reliving and further developing that concept with my art. By distorting the scale in my work, figures interact with the domestic environment in completely new ways. Our perceptions change when we subtly adjust our scope of the world.

I used to have a bunkbed with the top bunk filled to the ceiling with stuffed animals. I used to imagine exploring among them. I love it! Your paintings bring back so many memories! <3
