Slinkachu on his work:

My ‘Little People Project’ started in 2006. It involves the remodeling and painting of miniature model train set characters, which I then place and leave on the street. It is both a street art installation project and a photography project. The street-based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings. The scenes I set up, more evident through the photography, and the titles I give these scenes aim to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed. But underneath this, there is always some humor. I want people to be able to empathize with the tiny people in my works.

In 2008 I started the ‘Inner City Snail’ project, involving the decoration of snails that I find around London. After decoration, the snails are then placed back, free to go about their business in the city. In many ways similar in theme to the ‘Little People Project’, Inner City Snail can also be seen as a satire of street art and, more generally, our need to cover every available surface of our cities with graffiti, signage and advertising.

The humor of images involving giant objects near people and animals is classic. That’s what over-sized props are for onstage, and that is one of the ideas that made author Jonathan Swift so popular. . . juxtaposition.

Hi All, Very happy to read all your comments. I hope you can join us online or in the gallery to see Slinkachu’s latest work – “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow”. Another look into life in the city and the emotions this entails. Enjoy. Let me know your thoughts . . .

I love this idea, it makes you feel so small and surrounded by concrete and the dirty feeling of the city. Very much like Chicago, actually.

i am blown away that so many people dig this. I don’t feel it is at all original, all that thought provoking or in the slightest bit reflective of awarness. it’s juvinile to say the least.

At first I was unsure of whether or not I liked these photographs but upon further examination I grew to love them! Anyone who was on the fence about how they feel towards this artist’s work should certainly look at his website before they cast their vote. I think that the pictures speak volumes.

excellent, it remembers me to look from a different point of view at the street because sometimes you can’t see things even if they’re there

I really like this concept. Very creative and imaginary. These certainly give one “pause for thought’.
