A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute Master of Fine Arts program, Richard has been painting his own brand of off-beat pop culture and comic book-based imagery for over a dozen years. His first series ‘Song of the Snowman’ began in 1992 and continued to haunt and obsess the artist until 1999.
The visually intense experience of living in the city of San Francisco was the inspiration for the artist’s follow-up series, ‘Abandoned City’. Based on on-the-street sketches and photos taken by the artist, the series began in the fall of 1999. The paintings first took shape as views of a deserted city with dark store fronts and scratched out signs.
Richard also pursues the digital side in an ongoing series of Adobe Illustrator prints he calls, “Super Comicism”. Subjects range from fist fighting robots to gun toting future vision babes.
